Our Mission

We are dedicated to offering hope, help, and guidance by providing information, education, prevention, and treatment to those suffering from substance use, mental health challenges, and co-occurring disorders.

Our Vision

Social Model Recovery Systems envisions a world where communities can pursue social, economic, educational, and spiritual wellness free from alcohol, other drug and mental help problems.

Our Beliefs

At Social Model Recovery Systems, we believe that hope endures and everyone’s life experience is valued. Since 1986, our Agency has offered treatment, education, and prevention opportunities that greatly differ from an institutional approach. At each of our locations, the community, comprised of staff and participants, plays a critical role in stabilizing and sustaining participant through innovative programs that create mutually supporting social systems. At Social Model, we hold that while we think as individuals, we succeed collectively. We believe that recovery is an individual choice and an ongoing process: it is demonstrated, measured, and strengthened by community involvement. In sum, Social Model exists as the unique interaction of individuals and their experiences.

Since 1949, Pasadena Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence has provided hope, help and guidance to individuals, families and the community throughout the San Gabriel Valley (and beyond). From the initial assessment a treatment plan is formulated with the participant. This treatment plan is monitored on a regular basis by the team to assist in the participant’s progress in treatment. In addition to our treatment program, it is the expectation that participants engage in 12-step support systems.  Groups are offered to help our participants in the following areas: Relapse Prevention, Anger Management, Self-Esteem, Health and Self Care, Social Skills, Nicotine Cessation, Education on Addiction and Mental Health Issues, and Problem Solving/Life Skills. Other groups are custom tailored to the changing needs of our participants and their families.

The Aftercare/Alumni Support provides on-going recovery and treatment service after completion of primary care. The Aftercare/Alumni Support is available to adolescents and adults. Families are included in the Aftercare/Alumni Support program.

We have provided education, training, and consulting services for alcohol and other drug recovery treatment and detoxification programs since 1989. All trainings are based on real experiences that occur in the training room as well as the participants’ life experiences. We challenge the traditional education paradigm of “I lecture, you listen.” We design our curricula so that participants learn and develop; within this framework, they learn how to learn. We offer on-site local, regional, and statewide trainings. Examples of our Training Curricula include:

  • Addiction Behaviors in the Workplace
  • Addicts from the Criminal Justice System
  • Adolescent Recovery Services
  • Anger Management
  • Co-Dependency
  • Domestic Violence/Workplace Violence
  • Healthy Relationships in Recovery
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Program Start-Up/ADP Licensing and Certification
  • Relapse Prevention
  • Staff Ethics and Confidentiality
  • Trauma and Addiction
  • Treatment for Addicts with Mental Illness

Social Model Recovery Systems provides trainings which are highly interactive, utilizing discussion and real life case studies. Philosophically, the contents are grounded in the social therapy movement, post-modern philosophy, and humanistic education ideals.
